Failure To Launch Syndrome

What is Failure to Launch Syndrome?

Failure to launch syndrome is the unofficial name for an increasingly common problem among young adults who are either ill-prepared or unwilling to leave the family home and begin their life journey toward an independent life. Young adults with FLS often display anxiety that affects how they deal with stress, interact with others, and take action. They are often immobilized by fear to the point that are unwilling to do anything that puts them outside of their comfort zone.

A Fact About Failure to Launch Syndrome

“Twenty-four million of those aged 18 to 34, lived under their parents’ roof in 2015, according to the US Census. That’s a third of young people!”

How Can Counseling Help?

In a failure to launch situation, the adult child or family can feel stuck. In therapy, introducing techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you learn how to control negative thought patterns and challenge faulty assumptions is important, as well as addressing family systems. It helps to look at healthy ways you can support your adult child.*

How Can Neurofeedback Help?

Individuals with FLS often have underlying mental health issues. Anxiety and low-stress tolerance are always part of FLS. Those with anxiety display overactivity in their brain wave functioning. Neurofeedback reduces these overactive brain waves to help retrain the brain and therefore reduce symptoms of anxiety.*

How Can Intensive Therapy Help?

We use short-term, Intensive psychotherapy for those with FLS. Practicing and intensely reinforcing healthy behaviors and thoughts daily make it easier to break habits – at the conscious or subconscious level – and for young adults and their parents to learn new communication patterns. We named our trademarked program 360° Reboot® because it reflects an intensive, short-term approach that “reboots” the system to promote brain, body, and emotional wellness.*
