Episode 84: My PANS Journey

Listen Here

Promoting PANS/ PANDAS awareness is an advocacy near and dear to my heart because I’m a PANS mom, too!

A tick bit my son Max at just 22 months old. While we didn't realize it then, this moment marked the start of our journey with PANS. Despite the uncertainty surrounding tick-related issues back then, my prior experience working with families prepared me for the road ahead.

After the tick bite, we noticed significant changes in Max's behavior. In December 2006, he developed a fever, which understandably had us worried. Taking a holistic approach to his care, we addressed his symptoms. Over time, we noticed shifts in his personality and eating habits, and his sleep patterns became disrupted—a challenging ordeal for any parent.

Despite these challenges, we remained resilient. With guidance from our naturopath, we identified potential triggers, such as dairy, and took proactive steps to eliminate them from Max's diet. And you know what? We started seeing improvements. It was a turning point in our journey filled with hope and progress.

So, to anyone facing similar struggles, remember this: even in the darkest moments, there's always a glimmer of hope. With the proper support and determination, you can overcome any obstacle with
PANS.

Episode 83: What is PANS/PANDAS?

Listen Here

In this episode, you will learn more about the symptoms of PANS and PANDAS and what it is. There's no specific age of onset in PANS/PANDAS—it can affect both kids and adults. At first, you might notice minor signs like being extra anxious or having trouble sitting still.

These symptoms can be caused by things like ticks messing with your body. Your child might start acting differently—getting upset more easily or having trouble focusing. But it's important to know they're not doing it on purpose. It could be because of infections making them feel unwell.

Episode 85: How to diagnose PANS/PANDAS

Listen Here

Remember, having accurate information and the correct diagnosis is critical to getting the best treatment. When diagnosing PANS/PANDAS, it's essential to understand that no definitive test can determine whether your child has this condition.

Diagnosis involves assessing the clinical criteria and then ruling out or confirming it. It also thoroughly reviews the symptoms and the child's medical history. If you want to learn more about how I diagnose PANS/PANDAS using QEEG Brain Mapping and other science-backed tools, tune in to this podcast.

Episode 150: PANS/PANDAS: Is it a PANS Flare or Behavior?

Listen Here

It's crucial to differentiate between typical behavior and a flare. A PANS flare temporarily worsens behavioral or medical issues linked to infection or toxins. Identifying a flare requires a parent's detective work—observing clues and patterns in the child's behavior.

Different stressors can spark flares, so recognizing these triggers is vital. It's essential to look at the bigger picture, considering factors such as changes in routine, school stress, diet, sleep problems, or exposure to bullying.

Parents should examine the context of their child's behavior and search for patterns, remembering that flares are usually temporary and may cause periods of instability. Listen in and learn how to distinguish a PANS flare and strategies. Know how to manage it when it happens.

Episode 170: Can You Recover from PANS PANDAS?

Listen Here

Can you recover from PANS/PANDAS? The simple answer is YES! Keep hope even though finding treatment for PANS and PANDAS can be challenging. Remember, getting the proper guidance and intervening early is vital for ensuring the best care for our children.

It's crucial to find a provider who shares your goals and can assist in developing a strategic treatment plan. Embracing lifestyle changes and maintaining hope and patience can lead to substantial progress. Know the barriers to healing in PANS and PANDAS and help your child cope.

Episode 86: Why is PANS/PANDAS treatment-resistant?

Listen Here

Parents may often feel overwhelmed when their child receives a clinical diagnosis of PANS/PANDAS, as there's a prevalent belief that these conditions are inherently treatment-resistant. However, the reality is that effective treatment might simply require identifying the missing piece of the puzzle for healing.

Among the significant obstacles to healing are genetic mutations and issues with detoxification. Genetic mutations can disrupt the body's ability to process and eliminate toxins efficiently. This means that even with conventional treatments, the underlying genetic factors may hinder the effectiveness of therapies aimed at addressing PANS/PANDAS symptoms.

A comprehensive approach to treating PANS/PANDAS should involve not only addressing the immediate symptoms but also identifying and addressing underlying genetic mutations and detoxification issues. Join me as I discuss why PANS and PANDAS are treatment-resistant.
