Can Neurofeedback Be Done At Home?

Neurofeedback can be done remotely in the comfort of your own home. Neurofeedback at home is something that actually has been around for more than a decade! Surprisingly, technology that allows neurofeedback to be done virtually has not only been available for many years.

At-home neurofeedback for ADHD can help kids who struggle with paying attention, transitioning, and with impulse control. Neurofeedback for other issues or conditions such as stress, anxiety, OCD, depression, irritability, sleep, and so on also has research to show how effective it is in reducing symptoms.

Is At Home Neurofeedback as Effective as In-Person Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback at home can be as effective as in-person sessions when guided by an experienced clinician such as Dr. Roseann who has done more than 10,000 brain maps and brain checks. Neurofeedback is largely dependent on the quality of the practitioner and the protocols they design, as well as guidance on lifestyle changes.

As part of Dr. Roseann’s trademarked BrainBehaviorReset™ Method, we walk our families through those all-important lifestyle changes that support brain and behavioral changes. We take a multi-pronged approach and use only science-backed solutions that cultivate lasting change. We incorporate psychoeducation about the neuroscience of whatever stressor or clinical issue, such as as anxiety, OCD, PANS/PANDAS, Lyme Disease, mood disorder or depression, learning and processing issues or whatever issue your family is facing, so you can feel confident about steps you are taking.

Is Neurofeedback Good For Stress?

Stress is all around us and we need to actively combat it for physical and mental health. Our children aren’t immune from stress and they have a lot of academic and social pressure on them in today’s society.

Stress affects children in many ways and is a big reason why kids are struggling with focus, anxiety, and mood. Constant stress causes the autonomic nervous system to get dysregulated and get stuck in a stressed, sympathetic dominant state. When that occurs, a kid can’t pay attention, think, or act because their nervous system is too activated.

Neurofeedback is a science-backed tool that regulates the automatic nervous system and brainwaves so a child can be alert and motivated. It doesn't matter what the clinical issue is, neurofeedback works to regulate both the over stimulated and under stimulated nervous system.  When the brain is calm with our science-backed methods, it is easier to think, pay attention, and take purposeful action. Remember, no learning can occur without a calm, regulated brain and that is what we focus on in our BrainBehaviorReset™ Program.

Is All At Home Neurofeedback the Same?

There are many kinds of neurofeedback and they are all FDA approved and each type can address different needs and issues. When it comes to at-home neurofeedback equipment, most equipment is used in a generic, independent manner without clinician support. This type of equipment focuses more on brain communication and brain timing and can be a great tool for stress management.

At our center, we use clinician guided neurofeedback which is superior because the neurofeedback can be directed toward specific parts of the brain. That means specific issues can be targeted with EEG clinician guided neurofeedback, which can better support brain health.

How To Do Neurofeedback At Home

At our center, we begin with an in-person QEEG brain map and if you are a fully remote client, we schedule a Brain Check. QEEG brain maps and Brain Checks are ways to analyze brain wave data to determine which areas are overworking or underperforming.

A QEEG brain map or Brain Check assessment allows us to “check under the hood” or really examine just what are the root causes of behaviors or symptoms instead of guessing, which is, unfortunately, the current standard of care in mental health. During the intake process, Dr. Roseann personally meets with everyone who has a QEEG brain map or Brain Check and designs the neurofeedback protocol.

Neurofeedback equipment is sent home with or we shipped to you and we train you to use it. We give our clients as much training as they need in order to feel comfortable with the equipment. Sessions are completed in the comfort of your own home with guidance from trained clinicians. Dr. Roseann and the team monitor progress and support your training throughout your journey, as you or your child complete your sessions.
