What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is an alternate form of therapy provided to positively influence neurological activity in patient’s brains. These processes are studied to better understand how each patient thinks. Once initial tests are run, each patient can learn measures to regular neurological activity. When this is done, patients can begin to relieve systems of various disorders including anxiety, depressing and others. Biofeedback differs slightly from Neurofeedback practices.

What is Biofeedback?

Biofeedback is another therapy option in which basic autonomic functions such as breathing control, heart beat and skin temperature can be monitored using electrical sensors. By monitoring these functions, each patient can begin to understand how their body responds to changes in the environment and take steps towards controlling these processes. Using Biofeedback, a patient can learn how to regulate their body, reducing stress and improving overall health.

What is QEEG?

A QEEG, quantitative electroencephalogram, is a computer analysis of EEG data designed to show neocortical activity of a patient. An EEG is a type of monitoring device attached to one’s scalp to understand how the brain functions while performing various tasks. When this data is compared to other individuals, patterns can be detaching outlining signs of depression, anxiety and many more potential disorders. The QEEG is used both for detaching disorders and planning treatment strategies.

Common Neurofeedback & Biofeedback Questions:

How Does Neurofeedback Work?

Neurofeedback is a therapy in which a patient learn about their neocortical activity and take measures to modify this behavior. Using sensors, each patient can receive live feedback of their neurological behavior. Our team then trains each patient to adjust behaviors to promote appropriate neurological activity. Several strategies are used during this process, including reinforcement and rewards, to produce new electrical activity in the brain. Through reinforcement techniques, each patient can completely change the manner in which their bran functions, effectively alleviating symptoms.

What Does the Neurofeedback Process Involve?

The first step is to conduct a QEEG Brain Map to better understand which method of therapies will be most productive. Dr. Roseann analyzes each QEEG result and designs treatment plans based on your individual results. Once a therapy option has been determined, you can immediately being Neurofeedback sessions. Each patient is unique, although patients typically require 20 to 100 sessions. A session involves placing sensors on the scalp and monitoring neurological activity for simple tasks. As stated, each patient is unique, however most Woodbury patients receive treatment two times per week.
