Research Based, Neuro Treatment in Westport for:
What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is a safe and non-invasive treatment used to study the information (feedback) of brainwaves (neuro) and to reinforce change.* These treatments help give the brain the ability to self-regulate itself to calm the nervous system and diminish symptoms. Without self-regulation, problems like anxiety, depression and other physical symptoms can occur.
What is Biofeedback?
Biofeedback helps patients learn how to control their bodily functions like breath, heart rate, and skin temperature. Electrical sensors attached to the patient to measure and provide information (feedback) about the body (bio). This way you can record and learn to control subtle changes like relaxing muscles or reducing stress. This newfound power over your body can help health improve.*
What is QEEG?
QEEG is short for quantitative electroencephalogram, which is a brain map depicting measurement of electrical pattern on the surface of the scalp that demonstrate cortical activity Quantitative EEG notes a computer analysis of the EEG data. The data in this EEG is compared to an existing reference database of a standard set by other people’s EEG. This analysis may reveal specific patterns and these patterns can be a sign of depression, anxiety, and more. QEEG can aid treatment planning and help progress on the path to healing.*

Common Neurofeedback & Biofeedback Questions:
How Does Neurofeedback Work?
Neurofeedback is a way to help people learn to regulate and change their own brainwave activity. By monitoring brain functions and waves with computers we can show clients live feedback. With this date we can then train clients to promote or reduce certain brainwave frequencies. Additionally we can give rewards to the brain when it produces appropriate patterns by changing its activity. Our strategy focuses on the use of reinforcement and rewards and causes the brain to produce new electrical activity which shapes brain wave activity to a desired performance. Symptoms will be reduced as the brain learns to self-regulate.*
What Does the Neurofeedback Process Involve?
The process begins with a QEEG brain map. In this process your EEG activity is statistically analyzed after it is recorded. Dr. Roseann will then personally study your brain map before forming a treatment plan based upon the results. This leads directly to your neurofeedback treatments. In these treatments sensors are placed on the scalp and ears while simultaneously receiving brainwave reinforcment by watching a movies. On average patients normally have 20-100 sessions and come in about twice a week.

Is the Therapy Supported by Research?
Neurofeedback has proven to be a safe alternative treatment for conditions that affect children and adults. Over the past 40 years thousands of research studies have been conducted. It received a Level 1 effectiveness rating for the treatment of ADHD by The American Academy of Pediatrics in 2013. This is the same rating as medication.*
