Research Based, Neuro Treatment in Danbury for:
What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is a safe, non-invasive form of treatment of studying the information (feedback) of brainwaves (neuro) and reinforcing the change.* The brain self-regulates to calm the nervous system in order to diminish symptoms. Without this self-regulation, central nervous problems can arise – anxiety, depression, and even physical symptoms. Biofeedback differs from Neurofeedback by focusing on autonomic functions.
What is Biofeedback?
Biofeedback is the process of learning to control one’s bodily functions like breath, heart rate, or skin temperature. We connect patients to electrical sensors that measure and give information (feedback) about the body (bio). This allows you to record and learn to control subtle changes like relaxing muscles or reducing stress. It differs from neurofeedback because it is the control of one’s autonomic functions. Power over one’s body can lead to an improvement of health.*
What is QEEG?
A QEEG, quantitative electroencephalogram, brain map is the measurement of electrical patterns on the very surface of the scalp that reflect cortical activity. A quantitative EEG is a computer analysis of the EEG data. This EEG data is compared to a reference database of a standard set by other people’s EEG. Specific patterns can be a sign of depression, anxiety and many more. The QEEG is used both for treatment planning and progress.*

Common Neurofeedback & Biofeedback Questions:
How Does Neurofeedback Work?
We work hard to teach each of our patients how they can modify their own brainwave activity through Neurofeedback. We are able to show our patients their brain feedback in real time. We use computers and generate live feedback from brainwaves and monitor overall functioning of the brain. We help our patients achieve increased performance, and help the generate new electrical activity by means of a reward system. We promote different brainwave functionality by encouraging positive behavior and positive brain wave patterns.
We help our patients learn to manipulate their own brain wave activity. This process of neurofeedback allows for a reduction of symptoms, resulting from the brain learning to self regulate itself.*
What Does the Neurofeedback Process Involve?
Our team begins the process by generating a complete QEEG Brain Map. To accomplish this step our team will record the patients EEG activity, and statistically analyze the data. Following a complete analysis, the patient will meet with Dr. Roseann to review their brain map and develop a comprehensive treatment plan. The patient may begin their Neurofeedback sessions as soon as the initial protocol has been designated. Dr. Roseann will provide a treatment plan that outlines an estimated number of sessions required, and this estimation depends on the situation, goal, and the individuals wants and needs. The required number of sessions can range, however the typical assessment can require 20-100 or more sessions.
Our Waterbury patients usually schedule to come for an appointment one to two times per week. Sessions are noninvasive, and during treatment our patients are usually outfitted with sensors on the scalp and ears while receiving brainwave reinforcement, while they watch a movie.

How Do You Monitor Progress?
We monitor progress in three ways :
- We conduct data collection at every Neurofeedback session.
- Through QEEGs at regular intervals to objectively look at brain functioning.
- Through regular customized symptom checklist progress monitoring.
Is the Therapy Supported by Research?
Over the past 40 plus years, there have been thousands of research studies supporting its efficacy. In 2013, The American Academy of Pediatrics gave it a Level 1 effectiveness rating in the treatment of ADHD, which is the same effectiveness as medication. Neurofeedback is a drug-free treatment alternative for many conditions affecting children and adults, and it is safe. *
