Play and Expressive Arts Therapy

Our therapists use Play and Expressive Arts Therapy with our clients. Play Therapy is a well established discipline based upon a number of psychological theories. In play therapy, toys are like the child’s words and play is the child’s language and therapists strategically utilize play therapy to help children express what is troubling them when they do not have the verbal skills to express their thoughts and feelings.* Through play, therapists help children learn adaptive behaviors, and gain tools for emotional and self-regulartion, social skills, and executive functioning skills. Research, both qualitative and quantitative shows that it is highly effective in many cases.*

When children play or individuals engage in creative arts therapy, their central nervous system calms down and they can address their issues more effectively.*
