Research Based, Neuro Treatment in North Haven for:
What is Neurofeedback?
At our North Haven office, we provide non-invasive, safe Neurofeedback treatments. This type of therapy involves studying the information (feedback) that the patient’s brainwaves (neuro) provide for us to reinforce change.* In order to calm the nervous system, the brain will normally self-regulate. Without self-regulating, there are a variety of different central nervous problems that can occur. Such as anxiety, depression or even physical symptoms.
What is Biofeedback?
For our North Haven patients, we can also provide Biofeedback Therapies. These therapies were created to help patients learn to control certain bodily functions like heart rate, breath and skin temperature. They will be connected to electrical sensors that give information (feedback) about the body (bio). During the feedback measurement, sensors will provide information. With the information that we record, patients can learn to relax their muscles or reduce stress. When you can regain power over your body, you can start to live a life of improved health.*
What is QEEG?
A QEEG (quantitative electroencephalogram) also known as brain mapping is used to analyze the electrical activity of the brain. Cortical activity will be reflected by the electrical patterns that are measured. When an EEQ data is analyzed, a quantitative EEG (computer analysis) can be created . A comparison of the EEG data with another reference database of a standard set or another individual’s EEG data will be made. Specific patterns such as depression, anxiety, and other mental conditions can correlate with the different signs. QEEG can be used for a variety of processes such as treatment progress and planning.*

Common Neurofeedback & Biofeedback Questions:
How Does Neurofeedback Work?
Neurofeedback involves helping a person learn how to modify their own brainwave activity. Through the use of computers, we monitor brain functioning and show that live feedback to the client. We train them to promote or reduce different brain wave frequencies, then we reward the brain for changing its own activity to produce more appropriate patterns. Through this reinforcement, new electrical activity is actually produced in the brain, and the brainwave activity is “shaped” toward a more desirable, more regulated performance. These changes result in symptom reduction, as the brain learns to self-regulate.*
What Does the Neurofeedback Process Involve?
The first step involves conducting a QEEG Brain Map; this is a procedure where EEG activity is recorded and statistically analyzed. You then meet with Dr. Roseann to review your brain map and make a treatment plan. After a protocol has been designed, you can immediately begin your Neurofeedback sessions. The number of sessions required vary based on each individual, but range from 20 to 100 or more sessions.* Most individuals from North Haven come in two times per week. A session involves placement of sensors on the scalp and ears while getting brainwave reinforcement as you watch a movie.

Is the Therapy Supported by Research?
Neurofeedback is a safe, drug-free treatment alternative for many conditions affecting children and adults. There have been thousands of research studies supporting its efficacy during the past 40 plus years. In 2013, The American Academy of Pediatrics gave it a Level 1 effectiveness rating in the treatment of ADHD, which is the same effectiveness as medication.*
