Research Based, Neuro Treatment in New Fairfield for:
What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is a safe, non-invasive form of treatment of studying the information (feedback) of brainwaves (neuro) and reinforcing the change.* The brain self-regulates to calm the nervous system in order to diminish symptoms. Without this self-regulation, central nervous problems can arise – anxiety, depression, and even physical symptoms. Biofeedback differs from Neurofeedback by focusing on autonomic functions.
What is Biofeedback?
Biofeedback is the process of learning to control one’s bodily functions like breath, heart rate, or skin temperature. We connect patients to electrical sensors that measure and give information (feedback) about the body (bio). This allows you to record and learn to control subtle changes like relaxing muscles or reducing stress. It differs from neurofeedback because it is the control of one’s autonomic functions. Power over one’s body can lead to an improvement of health.*
What is QEEG?
A QEEG, quantitative electroencephalogram, brain map is the measurement of electrical patterns on the very surface of the scalp that reflect cortical activity. A quantitative EEG is a computer analysis of the EEG data. This EEG data is compared to a reference database of a standard set by other people’s EEG. Specific patterns can be a sign of depression, anxiety and many more. The QEEG is used both for treatment planning and progress.*

Common Neurofeedback & Biofeedback Questions:
How Does Neurofeedback Work?
Neurofeedback involves helping a person learn how to modify their own brainwave activity. Through the use of computers, we monitor brain functioning and show that live feedback to the client. We train them to promote or reduce different brain wave frequencies, then we reward the brain for changing its own activity to produce more appropriate patterns. Through this reinforcement, new electrical activity is actually produced in the brain, and the brainwave activity is “shaped” toward a more desirable, more regulated performance. These changes result in symptom reduction, as the brain learns to self-regulate.*
What Does the Neurofeedback Process Involve?
The first step involves conducting a QEEG Brain Map; this is a procedure where EEG activity is recorded and statistically analyzed. You then meet with Dr. Roseann to review your brain map and make a treatment plan. After a protocol has been designed, you can immediately begin your Neurofeedback sessions. The number of sessions required vary based on each individual, but range from 20 to 100 or more sessions.* Most individuals from Danbury come in two times per week. A session involves placement of sensors on the scalp and ears while getting brainwave reinforcement as you watch a movie.

How Do You Know Which Therapy I Need?
After a QEEG, Dr. Roseann will sit down with you and review your results and make treatment recommendations. Based on your QEEG results and clinical intake, she will determine what therapy or therapies is/are best. We proudly serve Danbury residents with these alternative therapies.
How Do You Monitor Progress?
We monitor progress in three ways :
- Through QEEGs at regular intervals to objectively look at brain functioning.
- Through data collection at every Neurofeedback session.
- Through regular customized symptom checklist progress monitoring.
Is the Therapy Supported by Research?
Neurofeedback is a safe, drug-free treatment alternative for many conditions affecting children and adults. There have been thousands of research studies supporting its efficacy during the past 40 plus years. In 2013, The American Academy of Pediatrics gave it a Level 1 effectiveness rating in the treatment of ADHD, which is the same effectiveness as medication.*
