Research Based, Neuro Treatment in Danbury for:
What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback treatment is very safe, and is completely non-invasive. During the process, we study the information (feedback) generated by the patients brainwaves (Neuro). In doing so we are able to identify abnormalities in the brains electrical patterns, and encourage positive changes to promote a reduction in symptoms. This feedback is representative of the brains nervous system regulation, and specific patterns can indicate symptoms such as anxiety, and depression. Biofeedback is based on autonomic functions whereas Neurofeedback is based on brain activity.
What is Biofeedback?
Factors including heart rate, breath, skin temp, and others are able to be measure by use of biofeedback. Biofeedback is able to detect how a patients autonomic body process systems operate. We hook up sensors to the patient and the sensors provide feedback (information) related to their body (bio) functions. After collecting this data over a period of time it can offer useful insights as to why your body is afflicted with specific symptoms such as stress or anxiety.*
What is QEEG?
A machine known as a quantitative electroencephalogram or QEEG allows us to measure electrical patterns in the brain through sensors placed on the scalp. These sensors allow us to see cortical activity. Using this data collected by the QEEG, Dr. Roseann is able to compare the data to other patients within a database to detect abnormalities. This process is known as a quantitative EEG. This non-invasive technique has helped patients identify and address underlying symptoms of ADD, ADHD, stress, and others.

Common Neurofeedback & Biofeedback Questions:
How Does Neurofeedback Work?
We teach our patients to modify their own brainwave activity. Using positive reinforcement techniques we encourage positive processes in the body, and beneficial brainwave patterns. To accomplish this task we use highly advanced computers to produce a live feedback image so patients can watch their own brain wave patterns in real time. After studying these patterns for some time, we are able to detect abnormalities, and work with the patient to encourage positive patterns that lessen symptoms resulting from these anomalies.
Our treatments encourage the development of positive electrical patterns in the patients brain. State of the art computer technologies grant us the ability to share patient brainwave patterns with the patient in real time. When patterns appear that result in negative symptoms, we work to change those patterns to diminish the symptoms. This process is non-invasive, these improved patterns can help patients achieve improved performance, and help to subdue troublesome symptoms. Over time, the brain can learn to soften symptoms and regulate its self.*
What Does the Neurofeedback Process Involve?
The QEEG Brain Map is the first step of the treatment process. In developing a QEEG Brain Map we are able to better understand the brains electrical patterns associated with symptoms and how the patients brain functions. This step offers us great insight as to how we can best treat the patient. Dr. Roseann herself will personally analyze this data and review the information. Once she has developed a treatment schedule the patient will meet with Dr. Roseann to discuss the additional steps required for treatment.* Depending on the patients needs the number of sessions to achieve desired results can vary. Patients can require anywhere from twenty to one hundred sessions, or more. Patients in the greater Naugatuck area usually visit Dr. Roseanns clinic for treatment one to two times per week.

Is the Therapy Supported by Research?
Neurofeedback is a drug-free treatment alternative for conditions that affect both children and adults. This treatment is completely safe.* Over the past 40 plus years, there have been thousands of research studies supporting its efficacy. In 2013, The American Academy of Pediatrics gave Neurofeedback a Level 1 effectiveness rating in the treatment of ADHD, which is the same effectiveness as medication.
