What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is a non-invasive method that measures brain waves to produce signals that can be used as feedback to teach self-regulation to the brain. One task for the brain is to calm the nervous system to lessen symptoms, and without self-regulation, problems such as anxiety, depression and certain physical symptoms can develop.

What is Biofeedback?

Biofeedback focuses on autonomic functions and helps you learn to control different bodily functions like heart rate, skin temperature, and breath. The process of Biofeedback deals with using electrical sensors that will receive information (feedback) that describes your body (bio). After holding multiple tests and recording data, the results of Biofeedback should help you learn to control your subtle contractions and relaxation to control stress. If you take control of your body, you will be able to improve your state of health.*

What is QEEG?

A QEEG or quantitative electroencephalogram brain map measures the electrical patterns on the exterior of the scalp that represent cortical activity. This includes patterns of mental strengths and weaknesses otherwise known as the parts of your brain where there is too little or too much activity. Certain patterns may be signs of depression, anxiety and once we find the reason for your struggles, we can create a therapy plan to help you. The EEG data is also compared to a reference database that holds multiple EEG results from other patients. Brain maps can help you on the road to healing.*

Common Neurofeedback & Biofeedback Questions:

How Does Neurofeedback Work?

The use of Neurofeedback is to help people modify their own brainwave activities to improve their current medical conditions. Using computers, we will monitor brain functions and waves that gives you feedback. Then, we will train your brain functions to increase or reduce different brainwave frequencies, while we reward the brain for changing its activity to improve your health. The strategy that we utilize is based on reinforcements and rewards, we can help you create new electrical activity in your brain. Your brainwave activity will also be “shaped” toward your desired performance. All of these differences for your brainwave activity will lead to reduced symptoms and more self-regulation to the brain.*

What Does the Neurofeedback Process Involve?

The process of Neurofeedback starts with a QEEG Brain Map. This means that our practitioners will record statistics through an EEG. Dr.Roseann will then review and analyze your Brain Map, looking for reasons that could be causing your conditions. From this analysis, she will then create a treatment plan for you, and your Neurofeedback sessions will begin. During these sessions, you will have sensors placed on your scalp and ears while you receive brainwave reinforcements from a movie. The number of sessions will always be different from patient to patient, averaging around 20-100 sessions or more.* Most people will come in twice a week.

Is the Therapy Supported by Research?

There have been thousands of research studies over the past 40 years that hold relevancy to Neurofeedback testing. In 2013, The American Academy of Pediatrics gave the therapy a Level 1 effectiveness rating for the treatment of ADHD. It tied first place with medication.*
