Research-Based, Neuro Treatment in Kent, CT for:
What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is a safe and non-invasive treatment option that involves using maps of brainwaves (neuro) to collect information (feedback) to promote and reinforce positive brain activity.* When the brain learns to self-regulate, symptoms can be greatly reduced as the nervous system begins to calm. Without that proper regulation, a variety of central nervous problems can occur, such as anxiety, depression, or even physical symptoms. Differing from Neurofeedback, Biofeedback focuses instead on targeting specific autonomic functions.
What is Biofeedback?
A technique involving the control of a person’s bodily functions, Biofeedback is a form of therapy that attempts to regulate things like breath, heart rate, and skin temperature. This therapy includes monitoring the body (bio) using electrical sensors and utilizing the information (feedback) to record and study the changes in the brain activity. Unlike Neurofeedback, Biofeedback is focused on using the body’s autonomic functions to foster greater control over a patient’s body, which can lead to improvement in overall health.*
What is QEEG?
Essentially a map of the brain’s electrical patterns, a QEEG, or quantitative electroencephalogram, uses sensors on the surface of the scalp to record cortical activity. The process of a quantitative EEG involves computer analyzing EEG data and comparing your own data against a standard data set within a reference database of other EEGs. Anxiety, depression, and many other disorders can all be indicated through the use of these maps. Your own QEEG data would be utilized for both treatment planning and progress.*

Common Neurofeedback & Biofeedback Questions:
How Does Neurofeedback Work?
Neurofeedback works by training your brain to self-regulate brainwave activities. As we monitor the functions of the brain through the use of computers, we provide live feedback to all of our clients. We use that analyzed feedback to reward the brain and then help promote or reduce specific brainwave frequencies to train the brain to self-monitor and thus exhibit more appropriate patterns. As they are reinforced, new electrical activity is created in the brain and the brainwave activity is “shaped” into more regulated and desirable performance. As the brain begins to learn how to self-regulate, the changes in activity can often lead to a reduction in symptoms.
What Does the Neurofeedback Process Involve?
We would start the process by conducting a QEEG Brain, a safe procedure utilized for recording and statistically analyzing your EEG activity. Dr. Roseann would then meet with you to review your brain map together and discuss what treatment plan would work best. As soon as that treatment protocol is developed, you can begin your Neurofeedback sessions immediately. Every individual is different and the recommended number of sessions can often range between 20 to over 100 sessions.* For most of our patients in the Kent area, visits to our office twice a week are typically standard to provide continued brainwave reinforcement as you attend each session. We use sensors on the scalp and ears to monitor your brain’s activities as you watch a movie.
