Research Based, Neuro Treatment in Greenwich for:
What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is a special kind of therapy that emphasizes the study of brainwaves. The objective is to reinforce a new and desired change into these brainwaves. Neurofeedback is safe and effective, providing the Greenwich area with non-invasive treatments methods. It addresses issues of both body and mind. The name comes from the study of information (feedback) in regards to brainwaves (neuro). This method focuses on self-regulating the brain, as it can calm the nervous system and diminish effects of a condition. Without this self-regulation and control, symptoms can overpower the system and problems can occur.
What is Biofeedback?
Biofeedback is a form of therapy that emphasizes studying both the mind and body. It focuses on studying a particular process of body parts and learning to control certain functions, such as breathing, skin temperature, and heart rate. Biofeedback involves measuring patients’ bodies (bio) with harmless connected sensors to gather information (feedback). The more information we are able to gather, the more we can help our Greenwich patients. We measure subtle changes that happen by reducing stress and relaxing muscles. This foundation of power over your body is a beneficial way to improve a balanced lifestyle.*
What is QEEG?
Quantitative Electroencephalogram, otherwise known as QEEG, is map of the brain. It measures certain electrical patterns on the surface of the scalp to portray accurate cortical activity. EEG data is used as a reference database to compare to a standard. With a computer analysis of this EEG data, we can gather specific and quantitative EEG information. By comparing and contrasting different stats, we can recognize similar patterns in signs of anxiety, depression, and various conditions. QEEGs are helpful in planning treatments for our Greenwich patients.*

Common Neurofeedback & Biofeedback Questions:
How Does Neurofeedback Work?
Neurofeedback aims to help individuals obtain better control of their personal brainwave activity. We utilize the power of computers to monitor certain functions. We share this live feedback with the patient and help them begin the process to improving their condition. Learning to control brainwaves is a matter of reducing or encouraging certain activities and rewarding the brain for this change. By following this pattern, we are able to produce more of the desired cranial patterns. New electrical activity is established and a more consistent production is made in the brain. The frequencies are then able to be controlled better and self-regulation is in the hands of the patient.
What Does the Neurofeedback Process Involve?
Neurofeedback therapy starts with a brain map (QEEG). This brain map analyzes a patient’s EEG activity, which data is then analyzed personally by Dr. Roseann. She will review the brain map and corresponding analytics with you. Afterwards, a customized treatment plan is created and regulation is discussed. The number of sessions varies per condition, ranging from 20 to 100 to more sessions.* On average, Greenwich patients visit our office two times per week. A typical session involves connecting to sensors on the ears and scalp and monitoring the certain brainwaves.
How Do I Get Started with Neuro/BioFeedback?
The process beings by scheduling a QEEG brain map. This helps us know where we can best help you on your road to healthy living. For more information on Neurofeedback sessions, click here.
How Do You Know Which Therapy I Need?
Each therapy and method is matched to meet your specific needs. Dr. Roseann interprets all of the QEEG data herself to help you obtain the most accurate results. After analyzing, she will discuss the results with you and provide an outlined plan for treatment.
How Do You Monitor Progress?
Progress is monitored in three primary ways:
- Scheduled QEEGS on certain intervals
- Collecting data and information from each session
- Checklist of symptoms to monitor progress
Is the Therapy Supported by Research?
Neurofeedback and Biofeedback are safe therapy alternatives to potentially harmful treatment methods. Both therapy techniques alleviate symptoms for a variety of conditions. In the past 40 years, numerous studies have been performed to provide support for these methods. The American Academy of Pediatrics gave it a Level 1 effectiveness rating in 2013 for its impact on ADHD, which is the same level of effectiveness as medication.*
