Research Based, Neuro Treatment in Fairfield County for:
What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is a non-invasive, secure treatment that helps study information (feedback) from your brainwaves (neuro) and lets us create a plan to reinforce change in your activity.* Normally, your brain should self-regulate to calm your nervous system to diminish existing symptoms. Without the ability to self-regulate, your central nervous system can produce problems like anxiety, depression and even physical symptoms. Biofeedback is different from Neurofeedback, seeing that it solely focuses on autonomic functions.
What is Biofeedback?
Biofeedback is the practice of teaching individuals to control their bodily functions like breath, heart rate or skin temperature. When you have a Biofeedback session, we’ll hook you up to electrical sensors that measure and give information (feedback) about your body (bio). This way, we can record your data and learn how to help you control subtle changes like relaxing your muscles or reducing stress. This treatment is different from Neurofeedback because you’ll be able to control your autonomic functions. When you have more power over your body, you’ll be able to lead a more improved lifestyle.*
What is QEEG?
A quantitative electroencephalogram (QEEG) is a brain map that measures the electrical patterns that stem from your cortical activity. A quantitative EEG is simply a computer analysis of the EEG data we’ll gather. We’ll compare your EEG data to a reference database with a standard set of other people’s EEGs. When we compare data, we’re looking to see what signs are similar that could be depression, anxiety, and many more. Your QEEG results will be used for both your treatment plan and progress.*

Common Neurofeedback & Biofeedback Questions:
How Does Neurofeedback Work?
Neurofeedback is an alternative therapy that offers treatment options for people suffering with eating disorders, addictions, anxiety and so on. This type of treatment is proven to help a person learn how to modify their own brainwave activity. With the use of computers, we’ll be able to monitor your brain functions and we’ll be able to show you how you’re functioning and what we can do to help you. Through our sessions, we’ll train you how to promote or reduce your brain wave frequencies and give your brain rewards to help promote healthy and appropriate patterns. Reinforcements help you produce new, positive electrical activity that will help “shape” you toward a more desirable and regulated performance. Changes like these usually result in symptom reduction and helps you self-regulate your brain.*
What Does the Neurofeedback Process Involve?
Before we can begin any sessions, we’ll first need to conduct a QEEG Brain Map where we will record your EEG activity and have the ability to analyze it. Afterwards, you’ll meet with Dr. Roseann to review your brain map and she’ll craft a custom treatment plan for you. With this treatment plan in mind, we’ll be able to immediately begin Neurofeedback sessions if you would like. The number of sessions you attend will be based on your preferences and treatment plan, but most individuals come in between 20 to 100 or more sessions.* Those living in the Fairfield County area will typically attend two sessions per week. During these sessions, we’ll place sensors on your scalp and ears while we record data and supply you with reinforcement such as watching a movie.

How Do You Monitor Progress?
Progress is monitored in three primary ways:
- QEEGs performed at scheduled intervals to observe brain functioning.
- Data and information collected from every session.
- Customized symptom checklist designed for monitored progress.
Is the Therapy Supported by Research?
Yes, Neurofeedback is an alternative and safe treatment to help a variety of conditions in children and adults. Over the past 40 years, there have been thousands of recorded research studies that support the results of Neurofeedback. In 2013, The American Academy of Pediatrics rewarded it with a Level 1 effectiveness rating for the treatment of ADHD, similar to the effectiveness of medication.*
