What is Neurofeedback?

Occasionally, there are conditions and symptoms that cannot be dealt with only on a physical level. Neurofeedback is a technique that bridges that gap, allowing our East Haven patients to better understand brainwave activities and cranial patterns. This technique allows us to understand certain brainwaves and their association with responses, which then allows us to identify sources of pain or discomfort. Through a QEEG interpretation, we are able to collect brainwave information and analyze it. We then help our East Haven patients begin the process of self-regulation, resulting in a diminishing of negative or unwanted symptoms. This can be beneficial for symptoms of depression and anxiety. Neurofeedback allows for the people of East Haven to establish a healthier wellbeing.

What is Biofeedback?

Biofeedback focuses on the connection between the mind and body, specifically in reference to symptoms and cranial activities. It is a therapeutic method that measures information for certain physical responses related to brainwaves and cranial functions. Once a physical symptom is better understood, we can create a uniquely crafted treatment plan to either overcome or regulate the physical reactions. Biofeedback utilizes the control of autonomic functions, including heart rate, skin temperature, and breathing. Learning to control these functions reduces stress for our East Haven patients and paves the path to a better understanding of the body and recovery.

What is QEEG?

QEEG, which directly means a quantitative electroencephalogram, is better recognized as a brain map. A QEEG is the beginning step to any treatment plan. It helps us understand brainwaves activities by tracking electrical patterns on the surface of the scalp. Dr. Roseann, who interprets all the QEEG directly, uses this information to develop a personalized treatment plan for each East Haven patient. Each condition is unique, and we make sure it is cared for that way.

Common Neurofeedback & Biofeedback Questions:

How Does Neurofeedback Work?

Neurofeedback is a specialized therapeutic treatment that focuses specifically on the brain and related functions. By studying cranial (neuro) information (feedback), we can then help our East Haven patients learn to control brainwaves and manage reactions. The goal of Neurofeedback is to better understand responses and help our patient learn to regulate and modify undesired cranial activities. We are able to track this information through our QEEG information and related technologies and expertly trained staff. We help our East Haven patients establish a new electrical pattern, which is then solidified through a reward system. With a consistent environment, negative or unwanted symptoms can be decreased.
