Research Based, Neuro Treatment in Darien for:
What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is a safe and non-invasive treatment used to study the information (feedback) of brainwaves (neuro) and to reinforce change.* From these treatments, the brain can self-regulate itself to calm the nervous system and diminish symptoms. Without self-regulation, problems like anxiety, depression and other physical symptoms can occur. Biofeedback is different from Neurofeedback due to its focus on autonomic functions.
What is Biofeedback?
Biofeedback is used to learn how to control your bodily functions like breath, heart rate, and skin temperature. Patients are connected to electrical sensors to measure and give information (feedback) about the body (bio). This way you can record and learn to control subtle changes like relaxing muscles or reducing stress. The power over your body can lead to the improvement of health.* Biofeedback differs from Neurofeedback because it is the control of autonomic functions.
What is QEEG?
QEEG stands for quantitative electroencephalogram. This is a brain map that measures the electrical patterns of the surface of the scalp to reflect cortical activity. A quantitative EEG is a computer analysis of the EEG data. This data is then compared to a reference database filled with a standard set of other people’s EEG results. Certain patterns may be a sign of depression, anxiety and more. A QEEG charts a treatment plan and can help lead to the road of healing.*

Common Neurofeedback & Biofeedback Questions:
How Does Neurofeedback Work?
Neurofeedback is the process of helping someone learn to modify their own brainwave activity. With the help of computers, we can monitor brain functions and waves to show live feedback to clients. We then train them to promote or reduce different brain wave frequencies and reward the brain for changing its activity to produce appropriate patterns. By using a strategy that utilizes reinforcement and rewards, new electrical activity is produced in the brain and brain wave activity is then “shaped” to a desired performance. As the brain learns to self-regulate, symptoms will be reduced.*
What Does the Neurofeedback Process Involve?
We first conduct a QEEG brain map, which consists of analyzing statistics through an EEG. Dr. Roseann will review your brain map, point out what is causing your condition and put together a treatment plan. Immediately after you can begin your neurofeedback treatments. The process involves sensors being placed on the scalp and ears while simultaneously receiving brainwave reinforcement by watching a movie. There is an average of 20-100 sessions for patients, and most individuals come in twice a week.
