Research-Based, Neuro Treatment in Carmel Hamlet for:
What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is a safe, non-invasive treatment that involves studying the information (feedback) of brainwaves (neuro) and reinforcing changes based on that information.* The brain self-regulates in order to relax the nervous system and relieve symptoms. Without this self-regulation, central nervous issues, including anxiety, depression, and even physical symptoms, can crop up. Biofeedback differs from Neurofeedback as it focuses on autonomic functions instead of bodily functions.
What is Biofeedback?
Biofeedback is learning to control one’s breath, heart rate, skin temperature, or other bodily functions. Biofeedback differs from neurofeedback as it controls one’s autonomic functions rather than brain waves. Patients are connected to electrical sensors that measure and give information (feedback) about the body (bio). The results are recorded so that the patient to learn to control subtle changes like relaxing muscles or reducing stress. Power over one’s body can lead to an improvement of health.*
What is QEEG?
The electrical patterns on the very surface of the scalp that reflect cortical activity can be measured using a QEEG (quantitative electroencephalogram) brain map. A quantitative EEG is a computer analysis of the EEG data. This EEG data is then compared to a reference database of a standard set comprised of other EEGs. Through the analysis of patterns, symptoms of depression, anxiety and illnesses can become apparent. QEEGs can be used both for treatment planning and progress.*

Common Neurofeedback & Biofeedback Questions:
How Does Neurofeedback Work?
Neurofeedback assists individuals in learning how to modify their own brainwave activity. Through the use of computers, we monitor brain functioning that shows feedback to the client in real time. Our patients learn to boost or reduce different brainwave frequencies, rewarding the brain for changing its own activity in order to produce more appropriate patterns. New electrical activity is actually produced in the brain through this reinforcement process, and the brainwave activity is “shaped” into a more desirable, more regulated performance. The brain learns to self-regulate, resulting in a reduction of symptoms.* How Do I know which therapy I need?
After a QEEG, Dr. Roseann will review your results with you in person, making recommendations for treatment based on your clinical intake and QEEG results. The most appropriate therapies will be suggested. We proudly serve Carmel Hamlet residents with these alternative therapies.
What Does the Neurofeedback Process Involve?
The first step involves conducting a procedure where EEG activity is recorded and statistically analyzed, called a QEEG Brain Map. You then meet with Dr. Roseann to review your brain map and design a treatment plan. You can begin your Neurofeedback sessions as soon as a protocol has been established. During your sessions, the practitioner will place sensors on the scalp and ears while getting brainwave reinforcement as you watch a movie. The length of treatment (number of sessions required) varies based on each individual. The range generally falls between 20 to 100 or more sessions.* Most individuals from Carmel Hamlet visit our office for two appointments per week.

Is the Therapy Supported by Research?
Neurofeedback is a safe, drug-free alternative treatment for myriad conditions that affect children and adults. Its efficacy has been supported through thousands of research studies published during the past 40+ years. In 2013, this treatment received a Level 1 effectiveness rating from the American Academy of Pediatrics—the same effectiveness as pharmaceutical treatment*—in the treatment of ADHD.*
