What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback seeks to understand each patient’s neurological process, this way positive change can be made. It’s accomplished by non-evasive means. Patients learn how to use self-regulation for lessening anxiety, depression, and certain physical issues.

What is Biofeedback?

While Neurofeedback focuses on learning brain activity for self-regulation, biofeedback seeks control of autonomic functions. To achieve this breathing, heartbeats, and skin temperature is monitored through electrical sensors. Going through these steps results in overall better health.

What is QEEG?

A Quantitative electroencephalogram or QEEG, is mapping done measuring brain activity. Once mapping is done, comparisons can be made. This process helps us with catching patterns that may indicate depression and anxiety. More effective treatments are made from this.

Common Neurofeedback & Biofeedback Questions:

How Does Neurofeedback Work?

Neurofeedback is a therapy in which a patient learn about their neocortical activity and take measures to modify this behavior. Using sensors, each patient can receive live feedback of their neurological behavior. Our team then trains each patient to adjust behaviors to promote appropriate neurological activity. Several strategies are used during this process, including reinforcement and rewards, to produce new electrical activity in the brain. Through reinforcement techniques, each patient can completely change the manner in which their bran functions, effectively alleviating symptoms.

What Does the Neurofeedback Process Involve?

The first step is to conduct a QEEG Brain Map to better understand which method of therapies will be most productive. Dr. Roseann analyzes each QEEG result and designs treatment plans based on your individual results. Once a therapy option has been determined, you can immediately being Neurofeedback sessions. Each patient is unique, although patients typically require 20 to 100 sessions. A session involves placing sensors on the scalp and monitoring neurological activity for simple tasks. As stated, each patient is unique, however most Woodbury patients receive treatment two times per week.
