Research-Based, Neuro Treatment in Bedford Hills for:
What is Neurofeedback?
At the Bedford Hills location, a type of therapy that we offer to certain clients is Neurofeedback therapy. This kind of treatment is a non-invasive kind. A practitioner studies the informational feedback of the neuro brainwaves and with that, reinforces change.* The brain needs to self-regulate in order to diminish the symptoms by calming the nervous system down. Anxiety, depression, and even physical symptoms are a few central nervous problems that can occur if the brain does not self-regulate. Around 90% of the clients who have done Neurofeedback therapy have had positive results including symptom reduction and significant change. There is no guarantee that this type of treatment will work for everyone. On the other hand, another type of therapy we offer at the Bedford Hills location is Biofeedback therapy. This is different compared to Neurofeedback because it focuses on autonomic functions.
What is Biofeedback?
Clients in the Bedford Hills area can also look into Biofeedback therapy. With Biofeedback therapy, we learn to control the bodily functions of clients such as their breath, heart rate, and skin temperature. With electrical sensors, our Bedford Hills practitioners connect them to the clients in order to measure and provide informational feedback about the body (bio). With the information, the clients are able to record and take control of the changes such as relaxing the muscles or reducing stress. With Biofeedback, it is different because it deals with controlling one's autonomic function. Controlling the body can help improve the health them.*
What is QEEG?
A QEEG is known as a quantitative electroencephalogram. Is a type of brain map that works with measuring the electrical patterns on the surface of the scalp. These electrical patterns reflect cortical activity. When the EEG data is computer analyzed, it is then a quantitative EEG. THis EEG data is compared with a reference database of a standard set of someone else’s EEG. Depression, anxiety, and much more can be results of the certain patterns. Treatment planning and progress are a few things QEEG can be used for* Dr. Roseann will be able to review the results and discuss about the best solutions for you. A treatment will be recommended when she gets the results of the QEEG and clinical intake. Contact our office serving the Bedford Hills area today for any questions you may have!

Common Neurofeedback & Biofeedback Questions:
How Does Neurofeedback Work?
Neurofeedback assists a person in learning how to modify their own brainwave activity. We monitor brain function and show live feedback to our clients through the use of computers. We utilize them to reduce or promote different brainwave frequencies and reward the brain when it changes its own activity to promote more appropriate patterns. New electrical activity is actually formed in the brain through this reinforcement and the brainwave activity is “shaped” into more regulated and desirable performance. As the brain learns to self-regulate, the changes in activity result in symptom reduction.*
What Does the Neurofeedback Process Involve?
The first step is to create a QEEG Brain Map, a procedure that records and statistically analyzes EEG activity. At your meeting with Dr. Roseann, you will review the brain map and make a treatment plan together. You can immediately start your Neurofeedback sessions once a protocol is designed. The necessary number of sessions varies based on the individual, but usually range between 20 to 100 or more sessions.* Most patients in Bedford Hills come in twice a week. A typical session generally includes placement of sensors on the scalp and ears while watching a movie, all while getting brainwave reinforcement.

How Do You Monitor Progress?
There are three ways we monitor progress:
- Through QEEGs at regular intervals to objectively look at brain functioning.
- Through data collection at every Neurofeedback session.
- Through regular customized symptom checklist progress monitoring.
Is the Therapy Supported by Research?
For many conditions affecting children and adults, Neurofeedback can be a safe, drug-free treatment alternative. Over more than 40 years, there have been thousands of research studies supporting its efficacy. The American Academy of Pediatrics gave its treatment of ADHD a Level 1 rating, essentially the same effectiveness as medication.*
*Every patient and condition is different making diagnosis’ and treatments for them vary. Dr. Roseann Capanna-Hodge and Associates do not guarantee certain results because of different results for each client.
