What is Neurofeedback?

For our Bantam clients, we have an option of choosing Neurofeedback therapy. This non-invasive treatment deals with getting informational feedback from the neuro brainwaves and then reinforcing change* Self-regulation of the brain is important to diminish the symptoms and the brain does this by calming the nervous system down. A few central nervous problems that can occur if the brain does not self-regulate are anxiety, depression, and physical symptoms. About 90% of our neurofeedback therapy clients have had great results such as a reduction in symptoms. We don’t guarantee that this treatment will work for all of our clients though. We provide another type of therapy known as Biofeedback therapy as well. This kind of therapy deals with autonomic functions.

What is Biofeedback?

Bantam clients can look into biofeedback therapy. This type of therapy deals with the control of the bodily functions such a breath, heart rate, and skin temperature. Electrical sensors are connected to the patient to measure and provide informational feedback of the body (bio). The information collected allows the client to record and take control of changes. Some actions to control the body are relaxing the muscles or reducing stress. Biofeedback mainly deals with controlling one’s autonomic function. Being able to control the body can help improve the client’s health*

What is QEEG?

QEEG is a short term for quantitative electroencephalogram. This brain map measures the electrical patterns on the surface of the scalp. Cortical activity is reflected from the electrical patterns.A quantitative EEG is the computer analysis of EEG data. With the reference database of a standard set of someone else’s EEG, it is compared to the EEG data. Results of certain patterns may conclude to depression, anxiety, and muc more. QEEG can be used for treatment planning and progress.* Dr. Roseann will be able to sit down with you to discuss about the best solutions. After getting the results of the QEEG and clinical intake, she will be able to recommend a treatment for you. Reach out to our Bantam serving office for any questions or concerns you may have.

Common Neurofeedback & Biofeedback Questions:

How Does Neurofeedback Work?

We monitor brain functioning and show that live feedback to the client through the use of computers. Neurofeedback involves assisting in a person learning how to modify their own brainwave activity. We train them to reduce or promote different brain wave frequencies, then we reward the brain for changing its own pattern to produce more appropriate activities. New electrical activity is actually produced in the brain, and the brainwave activity is “shaped” toward a more suitable, more regulated performance through this reinforcement. As the brain learns to self-regulate.These changes result in symptom reduction.*

What Does the Neurofeedback Process Involve?

The beginning involves conducting a QEEG Brain Map; this is a procedure where EEG activity is recorded and statistically analyzed. Next, you meet with Dr. Roseann to make a treatment plan after reviewing your brain map. You can immediately begin your Neurofeedback sessions after a protocol has been designed.  The number of sessions required vary person to person, but typically range from 20 to 100 or more sessions.*  Most individuals from Bantam come in two times per week. Placement of sensors on the scalp and ears while getting brainwave reinforcement as you watch a movie is what you can expect in a session.

  • Through QEEGs at regular intervals to objectively look at brain functioning.

Is the Therapy Supported by Research?

Thousands of research studies support its effectiveness over the past 40 plus years. Neurofeedback is a safe, drug-free treatment alternative for many conditions affecting adults and children. In 2013, The American Academy of Pediatrics gave it a Level 1 effectiveness rating in the treatment of ADHD, which is the same effectiveness as medication.*
